Mongar Dzong
Before the dzong was built sometime in the 1950s, Zhongkhar dzong, which is in ruins now, was the administrative centre. The town of Mongar is located on a hill. It serves as a gateway to Lhuentse, another district, 77 kilometers from Mongar which is notably famed for its weavers and special textiles and fabrics. The Kurtoe region of Lhuentse is also the heartland of the Royal Dynasty.
